My new book out on March 18th.

I have my new book being formally released on March 18th, which is always a joy as the gestation period on this one was two years.

It is a book on the psychology of playing your best golf!

“What back up there Robin, you write books on motivation, success, wellness, and now you are a golf writer”?

Curiously, I always believe in writing what you know about and what you love, otherwise it is a school essay type chore, with lots of clock watching and word counting.

I know about the factors which impact on our ability to succeed, and I love golf. I have played it since I was four years of age. I played throughout my childhood, adolescence and university years.

I continued to play golf socially after I left university, and indeed entered a number of competitions. I generally played well enough and had some good wins, both in stroke play and match play, but I never really improved as a player. Eventually my handicap settled at around 12. Sometimes I would play a little better than that, but more often than not, much, much worse. I stopped reading the instruction guides in magazines and taking tips from well-intentioned friends, and I accepted and believed that I was a bit of a hacker whose game was never going to significantly improve.

In my career over the last 20 years I have specialised in the psychology of peak performance and success. I have worked with organizations and individuals to specifically identify the qualities that enabled them to stand out from the rest of their field. I help my clients save their best performance for when it matters and to succeed again and again. So, the big question why was I not able to help myself become a better golfer?

Which is the origin of the book. Two years ago with a whole new approach to my mental approach to playing, in three rounds I went from a handicap of 16 to 8, and it remains 8 today, given I only play about 15 rounds a year, I think that is fantastic.

The lessons from the book apply to all the situations in life where we need to stay calm to give ourselves the best chance to perform well.
